New York New Gun Laws June 2022

On June 6th of 2022, NY Gov Hochul dusted off and signed into law several partially ready bills that lay in waiting, unsigned due to previous lack of support.  [link] The bills were rushed through the process in a  staged reaction just days after the horrific shooting events at Buffalo and Uvalde. Never let a crisis go to waste.

The timing also coincides with the pending release of a supreme court decision for NYSRPA vs Breun, due this summer, that is expected to change the NY State may issue to shall issue at a minimum but NY gun owners are praying for deeper impact.

They (gun control extremists) have said for years that they are not coming for your hunting guns, just 'weapons of war' and 'assault weapons'.  These new laws attack both hunting and personal safety. All semi-automatic rifle sales, including rim fire 22, require ANOTHER license. Body armor that would be useful during BLM/Antifa/Boogaloo rampages is now illegal. 

And yet again, young adults (under 21) pay the penalty. Both the US and NY State constitution's require 17 year olds and older to be part of the unorganized militia, on call should their country demand their service and potentially the sacrifice of their lives, but the same cannot participate in adult life in any meaningful way.

The new laws are aimed not only the citizens of NY but at the already highly controlled businesses selling firearms. New draconian restrictions will force many small companies, the lifeblood of America and NY State, out of business.

If it's about safety, why are there no new training requirements for schools, like there is for family health? An unarmed population is guaranteed to be more compliant. Look at China and that government's response during the covid crisis. 

S.9458/A.10503 Semi-automatic rifle licensing [KEI link].  This new law has at least one mistake and requires a license to purchase or take possession of a semi-automatic rifle including rim-fire .22 caliber hunting rifles. Our guess is that it might be implemented using the pistol permit system.

S.9456/A.10504  defining firearm [KEI link]. S9456 redefines firearm, making illegal  hundreds or thousands of currently legal guns. There is no grandfathering, there is no amnesty. NY just made hundreds or thousands of NY'ers felons. 

S.9407-B/A.10497 body vest [KEI link] . The NY legislature now calls safety equipment illegal. With the growing violent activity of BLM, Antifa, pro abortion groups on the left and Proud Boys and other less well known groups on the right, it is unbelievable that our state government would make protective gear illegal. 

S.9113-A/A.10502  red flag laws. Tell on your neighbor that you don't like, then the police guess if they might commit a crime.   Watch 'Minority Report' for an example of abuse of this type of system. 

S.4116-A/A.7926-A microstamping - creating a law before technology to implement it even exists. Since the 1600's we have called this 'putting the cart before the horse'.

S.9229-A/A.10428-A previously legal/grandfathered standard capacity magazines now illegal. As these are standard capacity magazines in common use across the US, this is a prime law to be considered under the new NYSRPA vs Breun ruling.

S.4970-A/A.1023-A includes law enforcement enhanced reporting, small gunstore rules that will shut most down, creation of a NY state gun sales database, turning over sales records to the state twice a year.
