New York is one of the handful of states that actively block law abiding citizens from meeting their state and federal obligations via second amendment encroachments. Examples include the the State Attorney General issuing cease and desist letters to gun industry parts suppliers to prevent sales of unfinished parts into New York as recently as 2020 and and then the NY legislature making 80% lowers (a chunk of metal that cannot function as a rifle) illegal in 2021.
New York has a 'may issue' pistol permit system that may take a year or more to navigate.
New York also has the 'SAFE' act (commonly referred to the unSAFE act), designed to block sales of the most common and popular rifles in the US into New York.

This hostile environment to basic rights has resulted in NY gun ownership being 1/3 to 1/4 of the national average, at about 14% according to a RAND corporation study [link]. Our neighboring states of Vermont and Pennsylvania average 40%.
The reduction in gun ownership has resulted in a lack of infrastructure to support gun owners, further compounding the issue.
IMPACT
Residents of New York are not ready to meet their state and federal defense obligations. New York is not ready to defend itself. We did not take the basic steps to prepare ourselves, as deemed necessary in the Bill of Rights.
