Readiness

Some sources cite the combined active and reserve totals of the United States military around two million people [link] of which probably less than half would be active, on the ground soldiers in defensive situations, or around 1 million troops.  

Other countries such as China, Russia, and North Korea have have combined ground armies of close to 5 million [link].

Air Force war game scenarios ran in 2020 suggest we are not ready [link]. As there has not been a significant attack on US soil other than foreign embassies since Pearl Harbor, US general population willingness to be prepared and stay prepared is at an all time low. The US general population's attitude towards defense can only be described as apathetic. 

If a large scale war were to break out elsewhere, it would require the focus of our military and active reserve units - the organized militia - leaving the unorganized militia to defend the US, state by state. 

With only 14% gun ownership in New York, most of which are NOT close to military capability because of the  SAFE Act, we are the softest spot for an invasion or internal militant organizations [link] [link] intent on holding large relatively undefended cities hostage.
